I think they're also generally only rated for a couple of hundred
insertions/removals too. Ever tried replacing an SMA socket on one of these
HT's?

I generally use an SMA to BNC adapter semi-permanently on these HTs.
Hopefully that way, the relatively cheap SMA/BNC adapter fail before the SMA
connector. It's a lot easier to swap cables and antennas about regularly
too.
