An office order dt. May 20, 2002 by Chairman, ISRO has approved HAMSAT ( A
microsatellite for amateur radio services) for launch aboard PSLV alongwith
IRS-P6 satellite. (HAMSAT is also known as VUSAT among amateur community).
ISRO is to provide a dedicated satellite for which Amsat-India will provide
payload transponder.
HAMSAT is being provided by ISRO primarily for carrying aboard an amateur
transponder developed by Amsat-India. Subject to compatibilty and available
onboard resources foreign sourced amateur trasnponder may also be
considered.
Mr. JP Gupta of ISRO Satellite Centre has been designated as Project
Director and a team of specialists from various satellite subsystems has
been formed to assist him. According to the communication from project
director to Amsat-India, the IRS-P6/PSLV flight is scheduled for this year
end/next year. He has requested close and intensive interaction between ISRO
and Amsat-India.
It is time for action at Amsat-India!!!! Gear up OBs!!!!
