The return of AMSAT OSCAR-7 is indeed a pretty amazing story.
The Mode-B transponder was designed and build by Karl Meinzer DJ4ZC and
Werner Haas DJ5KQ, who unfortunately left us in 2000 (he had his birthday
today).
This Mode-B transponder was also the first one using "HELAPS"
(H igh E fficient L inear A mplification by P arametric S ynthesis).
The HELAPS technology was developed by Dr. Karl Meinzer as part of
his Ph.D..
I may add that OSCAR-7 was the first ham radio satellite I heard and
it started my interest in AMSAT.
