[amsat-bb] FT-847 CAT -- Do I need Bi-directional?

I purchased a used FT-847 which serial number indicates it was manufactured
before the bi-directional CAT issue was solved.

Not having used any of the available software to actually drive my radios,
will I need this fixed (a new CPU) to say, use NOVA or WinOrbit to control
my radio?
