[amsat-bb] Metal vs. Fiberglass Boom

OK, let spirited debate begin!  I'm getting ready to do a wholesale
preventative maintenance job on the OSCAR antenna array (HyGain's).  I know
the question has been on the table before, but is a nonconductive
(fiberglass or PVC) REALLY necessary verses a metalic crossboom?

I await thoughtful input.
