I have something which appears to be exactly the same as the picture at the
MFJ site.  No input and output markings, however, nor is a preferred
direction mentioned in the instruction sheet.  Usually, there is just a
cartridge which runs between the case and the center conductor, with no
asymmetry of the parts.    

For things like SWR bridges and antenna tuners, the side which goes to the
rig is normally considered the input side, so if there is in fact a
difference, that would be my guess.
