First thought is whether the noise if being radiated through the control
cable, or radiated at the rotor into the receiving antenna. Unhook your
transmission line from the radio and see if the noise diminishes. If so,
then filtering will have to be done at the rotor to keep the noise from
radiating into the antenna. Maybe wind some #24 wire on a lead pencil form
and use both the .33 for lower frequency components and maybe a 100 pf
capacitor for higher frequency components. Best luck. Steve NU5D

Subject: [amsat-bb] Rotator

 Hi folks,
Yesterday I placed a new "no name" rotator for my Satellite antennason my
2nd QTH but unfortunately I noticed a very strong spark-noise
duringrotation(even if I have "ON" the NoiseBlanker). This rotator including
DC-motor, so It's obvious that the sparks generatedfrommotor's
carbon-conductors. It has just a capacitor (0.33uF) to preventthat. (BTW the
noise is terrible on VHF and my S-meter rising to 9 S,on UHF is just audible
but annoying on weak signals).
I'm thinking to place an additional filter with caps and some
ferrites(VK200 ?)close to the motor. The current consumption is about 0.3 A
(at 18V DC)during rotation.
If somebody has any experience with this unwanted effect, any suggestion
/ideais welcome.
