Thanks Wayne and everyone else that replied!

It does seem that SO-50 is virtually unused over this side of the pond and I
was wondering whether it was because a) someone was waiting for a Control
Operator to switch it on or b) the more knowledgeable sat operators couldn't
be bothered to fumble around switching it on!

On the basis of recent pass activity (or lack of it), I am going for the
latter option!

I did take a look this afternoon at SatPC32 and rapidly decided that it
would be quicker to fumble about with buttons than attempt to work that baby
out without the relevant College degree :)

I will try SO-50 again in the next few passes and if I can switch it on,
maybe there will be someone to talk to!

Switching between the two tones can be done with a single mouse click if 
you control your radio with SatPC32 (version 12.3 or newer).

Yes, it can be a nuisance if you have to push a bunch of buttons on your 
radio to switch tones.  But the transponder stays active for 10 minutes, 
plenty of time to fumble with buttons AND make a few contacts.
