Pat,

It doesn't matter whether you are using an Arrow II antenna with a few feet
of feed line, some Eggbeaters with about 25 feet of LMR-400, or hard line to
a 42 element M2 with LM4-400-UF around the rotator.  A good preamp on the
UHF side ALWAYS makes a huge difference.  Each of the above examples are
real, not hypothetical.  That doesn't mean you can get by without one, but
once you get one, you will wonder why you waited so long.
