That AMSAT's non-profit status is an impediment to our doing business like
any other corporation is a common misperception. We can hire employees, take
contracts, earn money, spend money and, in general, act as any other
corporation if we choose. It is in what we do with the money we earn that
differentiates us. We don't distribute the money to the owners through
dividends. Instead we reinvest all our funds into our educational missions
(like launching satellites).

Then, it is time to make amsat a for-profit organization.
