Joe,
Ironically, our small local club of about 20 hams has two AMSAT Field
Ops as members (KL7XJ and myself), but you are correct with your
assessment: Probably less than 50% of licensed hams ever turn on a
ham radio. Out of that how many are interested in satellite
operation? How many of them are AMSAT members, and how many AMSAT
members actually are active stations? And of the members and active
operators, how many contribute anything extra? Its a hobby - totally
digressionary!
Well, that is the nature of reality.
