Hi Steve,
I tried to get things setup for that but Murphy's law, which was quite
strong, was not stronger than my desire to finally work a satellite. Besides
multiple recording devices deciding not to work, I had to huddle underneath
the overhang of the house as it gently rained while holding the Arrow
Antenna out towards the satellite. In the other hand the IC-W32a, pen and an
index card to write (!?) with. Don't ask me about how that was supposed to
work. It didn't matter! It was quite a sight to see -- I was glad no one
could see me and even more relieved when I went back into the house without
my wife having viewed the spectacle (big grin)! But it was a dream that was
planted when I got my Novice license when I was 11 years old (1970's). I
could have waited a day for the rain to clear but I had already committed to
doing it... breaking through the wall of excuses why another day would be
better. Nothing was going to stop the attempt other than severe weather that
would have prevented me from hanging that antenna out or a broken handheld!
I worked two good contacts this morning via AO-51. I learned a lot by just
doing it (I've read plenty) and it became obvious I needed to make a few
changes including getting a recording device to work (!). I'll see if I can
do that today or tomorrow.

Stephen

recording it is very important. I was lucky that my first few satellite
contacts I had an elmer sitting wearing a second pair of headphones and
writing as much as he could down. I definitely wouldn't have been able to
log that without him -Steve VA3SAX
