Ed,

What type of device are you using to record the audio? I find it is better
to use a recorder that doesn't use an agc network to electronically control
the audio dynamics (variations in volume level). I use an Edirol R-1 made by
Roland. I don't think the R-1 is still being manufactured, but they may be
available through some distribution outlet online. It is a digital flash
recorder with the option of controlling the audio input level either
manually or by switching in an onboard limiter circuit. This also makes
editing the audio files very simple after the contact.

Folks,

Tonight I was able to receive and record the AO-51 pass over my QTH at
approx 0145UTC. When I listened to the recording it appears I recorded it a
little too "hot." What I did was split the audio from the radio and one to
the recorder and one to my headset.

What do you folks do?

And thanks to all who have been my Elmers during my current "new guy" phase.
