Hi Andy, W5ACM ex WA5ZIB
Happy to hear from you again ! Do you remember our interesting ZRO TEST
on OSCAR-13 early 1991 ?
I was listening several time the beacon of Sputnik-1 on 20 MHz using an
Hallicrafters SX-28 and a long-wire antenna and it was very easy.
The 20 MHz beacon was also recorded several time on a magnetic wire recorder
by my (SK) friend Roberto i1NU on day 6 october 1957 when he was living in
Trieste.
During a 1980 meeting in Torino Roberto donated to me a tape cassette with
the above original recording that was translated by him from the magnetic
wire to a magnetic tape.
To day I played back this tape cassette and it was very exciting to hear
again the 164......bip...bip.....bip per minute with the associated QSB and
doppler from Sputnik-1 !
This cassette with several records of Sputnik-1 last about 20 minutes but
at this time I am wondering how to help people interested on it.
In the other side of the cassette I have also the 2 meters beacon of OSCAR-1
recorded as well by i1NU on 14 december 1961
In the next few days I will try to make some files sputnik-1.wav for those
who are interested and if succesfull I will send on BB a new message on it.
Best 73" de
