Don,

I run a FT-847 with HB interface to my computer soundcard and serial
ports for such programs as psk-31, CW-Key5, WSJT, etc.
The Tx/RX audio and PTT connects thru the DATA jack on the back while
CW program keys the CW jack. The PTT line on DATA disconnects the
front mic audio path, but only when the DATA PTT-line is
energized. The front mic works normally. I never unplug anything to
switch between software modes and normal voice modes.

It occurred that maybe there is a menu function involved, but I have
never encountered your problem. I suspect you will need to test the
voltages on the radio mic jack to see if all is normal. You really
need to have the Yaesu service manual for thorough
troubleshooting. I bought one from Yaesu after market.
