I had good luck with Schedule 40 and a broomstick, as well. Run the
broomstick through the PVC and bolt it twice on each end such that each end
has two bolts running through it in a 'cross' configuration.

It's not as light as fiberglass but the rigidity is great for my 2x8element
array 25 feet off the ground.
