Curt, I appear to be encountering similar results as you. 1K2 - excellent,
9K6 N/G

I continue to experiment with little success using Packet Engine Pro, UISS ,
sound card and FT847. The FT847 has 2 options - a data IN/OUT jack and a
PKT 1200/9600 mini-din port. The 3rd is the external speaker and Mic jacks
which I ignore as an option. Further, I've used 2 methods to interface the
radio and sound card.

- SignaLink SL1+ to isolate the PC sound card from the radio PKT 9k6 port
- other times a direct connect between the sound card Mic IN/audio Out and
the radio data In/Out

So 2 ways to interface to 2 different radio in/out connections with rather
short passes to fiddle with audio levels on the RX side to get a decoded
signal and on the TX side to trigger a PTT.

Any combination of the above works wonderfully at 1K2

A further complication is the unknown viability of the sound card to handle
the 9K6 well enough to not distort packets and allow the software to decode
the packets. For now I'm using a Dell notebook. In a few days I may revert
to a desktop where I can try various sound cards including the one on the
motherboard.

The net result of this 9K6 experimenting is frustration and reversion to the
goode olde PacComm NB96 that works every time and all the time with any dumb
terminal program, stays hardwired so I can check for the resurrection of
GO-32 and is one button push away from 1K2 operation using Wisp32, UI-View,
WinPack or whatever. UI-View, WinPack and UISS work with AGWPE. UI-View,
WinPack and Wisp32 work with regular comports or USB virtual comports.

I hate the idea that with today's fast processors that we have to revert to
a hardware solution ( TNC ) instead of a "all software solution". But I
don't mind continuing with this experiment. We're facing a long cold winter
in EN19 and the shack is nice and warm and the rotator hasn't frozen up yet
:-)
