My (limited) experience has been that I start in the middle of the passband
and keep sending CW "dits" and tuning my TS570 on 10 meters until I hear my
signal.  I am using an off-center fed dipole.  It is a bit tricky at first.

Also, I asked the question about egg-beaters on this BB awhile ago, and
received almost universal feedback that while the antenna is good...I should
be using one of the hand-held directional antennas like an Arrow or an Elk.
I do have both of those now, never had a chance to use an egg-beater.
Perhaps it may be that the AO7 bird is higher/older and that is a factor as
well.
