I'm not sure it/they are the same, but I had a similar problem with my 
FT-857 and found that the voltage that is suppose to be on the data line 
connector was missing. If you are using a Yaesu data cable, they usually 
derive their power from the mini-din connector on the back. In my case, 
a 3 amp surface mounted pico fuse opened up inside the radio. This can 
happen if you plug/unplug the data cable with the unit hooked up to 
power and especially if it is on.

Again, don't know if this is the case, but it could be a similar 
problem. Check for voltage on the data connector if it is suppose to 
have any.
