You guys are making me aware of something. (But it's a good thing)
I've been keeping my IC-910 out in a BLACK "Pack-N-Go" bag,
in the trunk of my car. It has everything-- 1.2 GHz Module, Mode-J
and UHF Bandpass Filters (included in the pack). The sad part is, I
never use it except for Field Day! Guess I need to do something
different, like get it out and use it.
I generally use (one of) my IC-821s, or my trusted old 'IC-970', which
I fell in love with-- thinking it was the absolute "classic" of sattellite
rigs.
I still use the 970 when making Mode-L contacts with 1.2GHz.
It is sad too when my FT-847 is ONLY dedicated to the 6-meters.
It's a satellite rig too, isn't it? (Yeah, I must be in the FOG again.)
My ICOM IC-910 has performed well at Field Days, with only one
exception. It picked up some strange intermod at our site that the
IC-821 radio didn't. There is, however, another good lesson to be
learned here. You need to be totally familiar with a rig you're going to
use at FD. Digging one out once a year can cause an interesting, and
somewhat unexpected problem-- unfamiliarity. You can humorously
find yourself flying by the seat of your pants as a result.
Enjoy Ham Radio!
