My station is quite portable, not technically portable since I'm home
and using a power supply from house's mains. I work from a balcony
with an home made yagi V/U on the same boom, the two antennas are in
perpendicular planes. Four elements on V and 8 on UHF. I use two
separate radios currently a TR-851 and a TR-9130 (both with home made
subaudio tone generators capable of generating all tones), manual
tuning of course. What's good is the possibility to rotate the antenna
polarization to find the best signal.
Worked all analog LEOs since UO-14 with similar setup. Also worked
some V/S pass of AO-51, but since my downconverter has 144 MHz IF I am
currently unable to work full duplex
due to desensing of the IF radio during transmission.
I'm also building antennas for a fixed setup, but that takes time.
