I like the voice announcement function of Predict but I don't have a dedicated Linux machine at the moment. I don't know of Windows pass prediction software that announces the whole pass like Predict. So I set out to find a way to run Linux Predict while still running Windows.
I found a site http://www.pendrivelinux.com/. Pendrivelinux installs Linux to a portable drive and runs under Windows using virtual machine emulation. Their instructions were very straight forward. The "persistant" install allows the Linux install to remember changes like software additions. After getting Linux installed, I installed Predict.
There were two things to work thru. First, the Linux window manager was keeping Predict's Vocalizer from accessing /dev/dsp. I made Linux boot to a terminal (command prompt) and Vocalizer works fine.
The second issue was the same Predict / Debian issue with the tle and qth files. I just needed to point Predict to the files.
The usb disk install has played fine on two XP computers. Both computers are within three years old and have at least 1gb ram.

That's right. No voice announcements for DOS. There's really no
standard way to do it under DOS. The closest thing would be to use the
SoundBlaster hardware and hope that something similar is installed. Not nearly
as easy or as portable as the sound support under Linux.
