I really don't think an apology is necessary...when you consider your
compensation for doing this.  I would wait for a "raise" before I started
taking too much criticism seriously.

software.  The result was that I tried using my ISPs webmail interface to
get the news out from my hotel room.  It looked OK here but obviously did
not work as well as I'd hoped.  I'll take it as a good lesson for the future
that if my VPN connection is down, I'll need to have one of the other ANS
Editors send out the final copy.
