So the TX and RX are basically commercial HTs mounted in the satellite?

Which means my facetious comment about making a "bent pipe" by taping 
two cheap Chinese walkie-talkies together and getting the shuttle crew 
to lob it out the window on the way up wasn't totally wide of the mark 
then? ;-)
