Just a bit of evidence for your consideration:

Valentina Tereshkova and Valery Bykovsky were in Coventry England a few years ago and I was privilaged to be amongst the guests at a dinner held in their honour. During the after dinner conversation they were asked about the authenticity of the Amarican moon landings. Bykovsky said that they were monitoring the mission and there was no doubt in their minds that it was genuine.
