Ian,
    Good question. I too have recently received QSL cards with SASEs 
included from people that I know I never spoke with on the birds. They are 
going to a lot of trouble sending these, but if I never have definitively 
established contact with them, they shouldn't be disappointed when they 
don't receive a response from me. I don't like sending QSLs myself anyway. 
Establishing relationships with other hams is more interesting to me that 
establishing a card collection. Some people really get off on it and thats 
great for them.
