How much money do you want to spend is the first question! A couple of 
short linear yagis like the M2 starter series, a used tv rotor, some 
good coax like LMR400, and a UHF preamp will allow you to work the 
majority of what there is to be worked. Assuming you bought this all 
new, maybe $400 or less.
