George,
I re-read your email and realized you were asking how the *fiberglass
rod* connects to the balun case.
The manual shows the balun case/support rod as one item, so I don't
know how the rod is secured.
My guess is that it's a force-fit into the delrin ring at the top of
the balun.
I can send you a scan of the manual, or some pictures of my eggbeater
if that would help.

The loops are secured with Allen screws at their bottom. They take a
3/32 Allen wrench to tighten them (I just checked
this on my Eggbeater).
You might want to make sure there's no ice in the hex hole, or the
wrench won't get a good bite.
