Hyperterm PE version 6.3, which was a modest upgrade to the version shipped
with XP, is still available from various download sites. Hilgraeve has
started work on it again after an 8 year lapse, but they are charging for
the new versions. Google "Hyperterm PE 6.3" and numerous sites will come
up. Note that some make it sound as if it is a trial version, but if it is
version 6.3, it is a full version.

The trick about pulling off the EXE and DLL files is widely reported, but
can be iffy. A friend was looking for a terminal program to distribute on a
CD along with some other stuff for an APRS project. He took my suggestion
to do that, as it worked on my machines. However, some but not all Vista
machines choked on it with protection errors. The ones they tested when
they did the install worked fine, but that is not what they were looking
for. After some additional research, they went with PUTTY, which worked
fine.

Charlie,

I ran across the following info that looks interesting. 73 de Andy W5ACM

While Hyperterminal shipped with Windows XP, it however did not ship with
Windows Vista (Boo Microsoft, Boo!). However that doesn't mean that you
can't
use it. What you can do is rip the following files from a Windows XP disc or
installation;

hypertrm.dll

hypertrm.exe

Now all you need to do is place them anywhere in your Vista directory and
link the shortcut to

hypertrm.exe. Now you can launch it and it will first ask for Zip code and
state. Afterwards you can being to use Hyperterminal as usaual. If you don't
have a copy of Windows XP handy, you can download the file's I've ripped and
use it as well;

Side note, although I am using the Windows 7 RC1, I do see a placeslot of
Hyperterminal, but no application for it. You'll be happy to know that this
also will work for Windows 7 as well - *note, this works for 32/64bit Vista
and Windows 7!*

I am looking for a FREE Terminal Emulator app. as Win7 64 does not
include it as it did with XP. I want it to communicate with the LVB Tracker.
Can any one recommend one?

Thanks
Charlie
