Craftsman makes a small strap wrench that I have used to remove elements
that were stuck by the use of too strong locking compound. It sells for
around $5.00 There should be other manufacturers of strap wrenches that
could be used.
Apply the strap near the threaded end of the element, not farther than a
half inch from the boom. The threaded insert should prevent collapse of the
tubing. I recommend not using a pliers, it will chew up the outside of the
tubing. Proper use of the strap wrench should apply enough torque to remove
the element.
The recommendation of the use of copper particle anti-seize compound is
good.
Any other suggestions ?

Thanks to all who responded.? It
is an ELK, NOT Arrow, that is stuck.? I am now in
Europe with no antenna, will try to get on the sats anyway somehow.
At least one day, I will work AO-7 from the spot where Slovakia, Hungary,
and Austria touch together, thus 3 countries for one qso.

There will be an AMSAT table at the Hudsonville, MI,
hamfest on June 5th from 8am to 2pm. Doug KD8CAO and
John K8YSE will be on hand to discuss satellites; AMSAT
gear will be available for purchase. If you live in
West Michigan, please stop by and say hello.
There will be a satellite demo during the hamfest starting
with an AO-51 pass at 1203 UTC. We will try to work AO-7
at 1345z, SO-50 at 1555z, VO-52 at 1611z and HO-68 at 1713z.
We will be using a mobile setup with a TS2000, an Arrow UHF
7x7, 5 el Mosley on 2m, G5400b rotor with SatPC32 controlling
the rotor and radio. Hopefully we will have a good view of
the sky. We may be on some Friday evening passes during the
setup and pot-luck event. Check our position on www.aprs.fi
and search for K8YSE-8. We would appreciate contacts during
the demo, especially from other hamfests.
K8YSE/M will be operating on Friday June 4th en route to EN62 from
EN91. Hopefully there will be places to stop during passes on
the way. I will try to operate on the way back on Monday, June
7th as well. Check aprs.fi for our position.
73,
John K8YSE

Two visuals that really put the depth and breadth of the Gulf oil disaster
in perspective for me -
A widget that converts "barrels" into gallons as it maintains a running
total of the spill - http://tinyurl.com/bp-widget
And a site where you can "overlay" onto Google maps the size of the spill -

For the purpose of working toward a VUCC, does working the same callsign but
via a different satellite count as two contacts?

Clint,
VUCC goes by grids, not necessarily who you work on what bird. It is the
grids that matter.
