Its for this very reason i keep 2 old PC 486 a P1 all runnning WIn 98 and Windows ME they both have 2 serial port and they are very easy to 
configure in the older DOS based program. You even found them in many garage sale often for free when you bargain as an excuse another 
useless item...

The price to pay is to have to spend (loose) your time on the roads on a sunny week end morning.
