I've had recent Mode A success into Europe (Germany, France and  
Italy), using a cut-down Radio Shack CB magmount whip. It's stuck on  
to a large metal serving tray "borrowed" from the kitchen. I hide it  
behind an easy chair in a corner of the shack.
