I agree on the possibility of some line loss to the unit. The longer the
coax run the more problems you may have with it properly switching. I
found this to be especially true of the early models of the Mirage mast
mounted preamps. Even the power "T" can be a problem if the wire run is
long. Presently, I am using my unit on the IC-910 without any problems,
but the coax run is less than 50' of 9913. I would recommend holding
onto the KP-2 for awhile. If the rig is border lined with the output
voltage being around 12 volts instead of around 13.8 volts, there could
be enough loss (even .5 volts) can cause erratic operation. Using the
KP-2 allows you to use a separate voltage allowing sufficient amount to
the preamp.
