The 4kg nanosatellite STRaND-1 developed in the UK by University of Surrey and Surrey Satellite Technology Limited (SSTL) will be flying a Smartphone, see

I recall they were hoping to launch by the end of the year.
The great thing about flying Smartphones is you get loads of Processing Power, a Still/Video Camera and GPS in a very small and very cheap board.
