Congrats on your first contacts!

I built a handle for the Elk out of PVC pipe.  It's long enough (about 4
feet) so that I can rest one end of it on my hip to carry most of the
weight.  The passes are only 10 minutes or so, so my arm doesn't get too
tired with the rest of the weight.  I call it my 3-axis Armstrong rotor :-)
AO-51 has been having some issues lately, so you'll want to also try out
AO-27 and SO-50.  Just remember that if you don't hear other stations then
either your receive freq is wrong, volume is turned down, antenna is pointed
the wrong way, radio is in the wrong mode, or the satellite isn't
operating.  In any of those cases, transmitting will either cause QRM or be
fruitless :-)
