To be fair, the launch took place late on a Friday night, so people
were likely more interested in the weekend.

On the other hand, LADEE isn't going to do anything comparatively
interesting.  After all, the moon isn't Mars and isn't considered an
exotic location.  Examining dust in the lunar atmosphere?  How dull is
that?

I remember when the Huygens probe landed on Titan, which I thought was
quite exciting.  (Talk about the "strange new worlds" mentioned in the
opening credits for each episode of "Star Trek"!)  Later that day, I
was chatting with a cashier about it and her reaction was "Huh?".  She
probably didn't know where Titan was, let alone that there were two
spacecraft in its vicinity.  Maybe Saturn, to her, was just another
brand of automobile.
