[amsat-bb] SpaceX Test Vehicle Explodes

A late friend, an aeronautical engineer beginning in the early days of jets and rockets, used to say
that they judged the success and progress of a cutting edge R&D project by the amount of wreaked
equipment they had. By pushing things to the limit, they learned what worked and what didn't. While
he was knowledgeable of the new computer techniques and heartily approved, he thought that they tended
to make some people risk averse when testing to destruction made sense. I would like to think that
somewhere he is smiling.

73s,

<I'll second that, people should remember it's a test vehicle and doesn't
<really represent a normal launch at all. The publicly stated goals has
<actually always been to push it to the limits. Hence why one of the first
<Grasshopper videos has Johny Cash "Ring of Fire" in the background (NOT
<F9R-Dev1, today flight is a difference vehicle, Grasshopper did not fly
<today).
