David,
On the LVB PC board, beside the serial port, is a socket which will take a USB chip complete with
connector. You remove the serial port chip, and install the USB chip.
As for the USB chip, the old part number was DLP-USB232M, which has been replaced by the
626-DLP-USB232M-G. Mouser has them at $25.
AMSAT used to sell them, but there were some reports that the computer would lose connection with the
LVB, and so the use of an external adapter is recommended. That is usually the cheapest way to go.
