Jerry,

If you're adventurous you could use a SDR on receive (Airspy, SDRplay,
FUNcube, ...) and any radio which transmits the desired mode on 2m / 70cms.

Myself I'm using an Airspy / FT-991 combination, in a week or two it'll be
fully automated by the computer.

EXCLUDING the radios used for portable and with handheld antennas, what are
the radios used for FIXED operations?  I have my IC-2730, which I understand
can be used, but wonder what other radio options are there out there.  Are
the older second-hand radios (hard to find) the answer?
