Welcome back.

SO 50  and AO 85 are the current FM birds that are most usable.  Lilacsat2
is workable but very very seldom is it turned on for reasons known only to
the Chinese folks that put it up.

You are correct about linear birds.  Unless you can find an SSB capable HT
they are unworkable with an HT.  Some folks have gotten brave and put cw
into it but that seems to be frowned upon.
