[amsat-bb] TS-2000 Birdie 436.795

I own a Kenwood TS-2000 and that is my main satellite rig. The birdie will
affect any radio near the TS-2000 on 436.795 ( I have tried that ) so for
me using a totally different radio is the best way to work SO-50. In my
case I use a Yaesu FT-5200, I paid $100 for it and it's a great FM
fullduplex mobile radio, I also have the Icom IC-w32a but I prefer to use
the FT-5200.

Those are my two cents on the TS-2000 birdie issue.

The cheapest way to work SO50 with the TS2000 is to get a $25 Baofeng, and
a coax switch, and use the Baofeng for receive on SO50 passes.  That is
what I have been doing.

It's a birdie on all of the 2000's I think...  But that is an FM bird, so
I just listen to that downlink on a different FM mobile  radio

I understood that AO-7 is for the moment still in complete sunlight and as
such, should be switching back and forth between Mode A/B every 24 hours or
so.. Looking though at the amsat.org Satellite Status page, I see no
evidence of this.  If it is changing, does anyone know when UTC that is
happening?

Just got home and ran Illum. The last eclipse will be at 0211 UTC on
October 14th. Assuming there are no other periods of partial eclipse
that cause it to lose power (a distinct possibility), the 24 hour
timer would switch it to Mode A at 0211 UTC on October 15th.

I have falconsat3 packets coming in on sdr#

I am using soundmodem but then the packets don't go anywhere

Can you help me get direwolf running on windows so I can pass them to the
aprs-is

I am trying ui-view but I don't think it know what to do with the packets

Still looking for a good sdr# doppler solution

I have a few things up my sleeve yet

A few days ago, Rick, W2JAZ, asked me if the new, short, weak signal
protocol, FT8, could be used on satellites. I posited it might work near
AOS or LOS where the Doppler corrections are small. FT8 is operationally
similar to the older protocols but four times faster (15-second T/R
sequences) and less sensitive by a few dB.

So we set out to configure our satellite stations to use WSJT-X with FT8.
With some configuration advice from W0DHB, we each got our systems
configured. Mine (W5RKN) is a Flex-6500 with two DEMI transverters running
SmartSDR, SatPC32, FlexSATPC, and WSJT-X. Rick?s (W2JAZ) is a Flex-5000
with U/V module, running PowerSDR, SatPC32, FlexSATPC, and WSJT-X.

After a couple runs on AO-7 without success, we tried again tonight on the
0220Z (14 Oct) pass of FO-29. I started out at my AOS calling CQ W5RKN
EM10. After several transmissions without success, the reply W5RKN W2JAZ
FN29 popped up on the screen. Then followed the usual signal report, RRR
and 73 transmissions.

As soon as I can figure out the appropriate fields for LoTW, we?ll log the
QSO there.

I am not aware of other WSJT-X QSOs on the satellites, so I?d be interested
in other?s experiences,

Perhaps you could use it for moon bounce.  You could at least listen to
the DL0SHF 10 GHz EME beacon (http://www.pa0ehg.com/dl0shf_beacon.htm).
It has been demonstrated to be doable with an RTLSDR dongle and and LNB:

I hope to do something similar in the future, but I'm currently too busy
and having too much fun with the LEO satellites.
