On my QRZ Page, you can see the counterweight I added where
the hand grip used to be. It's from some exercise equipment
that was no longer in use. It's tie-wrapped to a paintbrush
handle and shoved into the end of the Arrow and held by a
screw. This equalizes the Arrow weight on the other side of
the tripod mount.
The attachment to the tripod camera mount is a homebrew plate
of thick bakelite. Two screws are countersunk and extend through
to standoffs which then attach to a thin plate. The plate is
bolted through the shaft of the Arrow.
This assembly allows quick attachment to the camera mounting
which has a lever to hold the foot-plate. The entire arrangement
provides AZ/EL and V/H for the Arrow and eliminates the requirement
for a third hand during SAT passes. ;o)

After receiving my Arrow last year I suggested by email to Steve at Arrow that a counterweight add-on would be a great companion product option for tripod use but, to my knowledge, he doesn’t offer one.
Please share your counterweight designs.
