Fox-1D (AO-92) and Fox-1-Cliff will have two different modes U/v and L/v.  Switching between two different modes will be by AMSAT command.  In addition, AMSAT-UK will be launching their ESEO satellite this year; however, it will be L/v only, per their website.  I know of no plans for satellites in the L/u mode at this time. Fox-1D and Fox-1Cliff both utilize and L-band downshifter that uses the UHF antenna, so, by design, these two satellites, will not be capable of L/u mode.
Your 1268-144 transverter is certainly rare.  I did see where you posted to the AMSAT BB back in 2010 about it, but did not find anything else in a quick Google search.  Cherish it.
Certainly hope you can get your IF radio sorted out and able to get back on the birds.  I look forward to our first QSO.

I have a venerable FT736R (with only 2m/70cm) for satellite operation 
(future).  But if the mode will be LV (1268up/145dn) I will have to 
use a different radio for either uplink or downlink as the FT736R 
does not do in-band duplex on 144.  I have two other radios that will 
do 2m allmode but it gets more complicated for tuning.  FT736R has 
satellite mode for 2m/70cm (probably one of the first to do 
that).  If the mode will be LU then all is fine.

I also still have my mode-S preamp and two Drake downconverters if 
ever that band is reactivated.

PS: not QRV on satellites (yet)
