[amsat-bb] HT for sats

Paul,

Newer versions of the IC-W32 have desense when transmitting on
2m and trying to simultaneously on 70cm - like we do for SO-50.
This includes some with higher 5-digit serial numbers, and those
with 7-digit serial numbers. I had no problems using my IC-W32
with the ISS cross-band repeater whenever it was in U/V mode,
and it should do fine with AO-85, AO-91, etc. It had desense
when working SO-50, but its receiver was good for old FM
satellites back in the days of AO-51 and AO-27. It should be
great with the Fox-1 FM satellites and their strong 2m
downlinks.

If your IC-W32 has no desense when working SO-50, Paul's
suggestion is good. Companies like batteriesamerica.com still
sell new battery packs for that radio, and even a 6-cell AA
case (Icom's only held 4 AA cells). If yours has desense with
SO-50, you'll have to decide if you can live with that, or look
for another radio that will do full-duplex with both V/U and
U/V satellites - like the TH-D72 that is currently in production.

73!
