[amsat-bb] AO91, AO92 and XW-2 sats with mobile whips

When Doug Wheelock KB5BOC was on the ISS, I tried many times to work him when using a 5/8 whip on the car but with no success. I then changed to a 1/4-wave whip and worked him first call. I attributed this to the fact that with a 5/8 the major lobe is towards the horizon whereas a 1/4-wave has a lobe tilted further upwards.

Hi Dave,

That is great to know. Sounds like it would work. I wonder if a 1/4 wave
antenna might be better than a 5/8 wave as it might have some higher lobes
as well and cover more of the pass. Does anyone know about this?
