You are totally right that SSB is the normal mode for phone. But just to
clarify, the XW2 sats are "linear transponders". That means pretty much
anything you send up comes out down, but at a different frequency. So you
could use CW, AM, etc also. You could use FM, but that would be very bad
practice (and no one listening) since FM would use up most of the
passband. Perhaps I'm being a bit pedantic.
