Karl Jansky <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl_Guthe_Jansky> wasn't known
to have an amateur radio license (as far as my googling can tell) but he
was closely connected to Grote Reber
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grote_Reber>, who advanced Janksy's work
into the modern era through his expertise gained from amateur radio
experimentation. Reber's callsign was W9GFZ now held by the NRAO Amateur
radio club (source <https://www.nrao.edu/pr/2002/reber/>).
