I side with the President and the decision of the BoD.

Spending the funds to address the issue for which these funds were expended,
to develop policies and procedures to help handle and prevent such problems
like this from ever happening again in the future is money well spent.

You and Patrick are the ones that need to reimburse the membership
for the expenses.
