Hi Jerry, unfortunately for you, you have stepped on the 'third rail' of
questions on the amsat mail list !!
I'm sure all kinds of opinions will follow your post...some honest and
helpful, but I suspect, a lot of HRD bashing. IMO, both programs have their
merits. SatPC32 has the 'graphics' of DOS, but it works. HRD has much better
graphics, interfaces with your log, updates keps much easier and works just
fine on LEO sats. It has a rep for allegedly not working well with linear
sats, but most of those 'opinions' are from people that used the program 20
years ago. I suggest the tried and proven course of action: use the trial
versions of both programs and see what works best for YOU...
A lot of new development has been done on HRD's Sat program in recent
years...not much on SatPC32. For me, I used HRD to get VUCC #226...I have
yet to be able to configure SAT PC 32 for use with my TS2000's...maybe
that's on me...but, as I say, the fairest test is what works for YOU...
In either case, I wish you GL !!!
73, Ted

Subject: [amsat-bb] SatPC32 vs. HRD
As I have previously stated, I am new and in the planning stages of my
satellite station.
I have SatPC32 installed and impressed with its abilities. Also, I am
receiving encouragement from a friend to try HRD (Ham Radio Deluxe) which I
also own.
I was wondering if and how many satellite operators are using HRD or have
tried it. I suspect that SatPC32 of used primarily by most everyone.
Many thanks for the help being received here and off the BB.
73,
Jerry AB5R
