Andy -
As you know Yaesu bought out the Kenpro rotator product line.

At one time, Peter G3IBI had spare parts for Kenpro. Contact him.

On March 11, 2011 the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami moved the main island of Japan Honshu 2.4 meters (8 feet) to the East. The Fukushima and Miyagi prefectures received significant damage and some areas totally destroyed.
This was a significant disruption, and changed the Asian electronics supplier channel.
Many small electronics suppliers/subcontractors were in this Japanese region. This resulted in parts and assembly shortages for many industries (automobile, appliance, amateur radio). Eventually Japanese mfg. pivoted to other Asian suppliers.

In March 2012, the Yaesu/Kenpro azimuth motor failed on the G-5500 Az-El rotator system owned by David Palmer, KB5WIA. He contacted Yaesu USA Parts, but they formed him that they had no replacement AZ motors (at the time — 2011 Tōhoku).

Here are the steps and photos that KB5WIA took to DIY Disassemble and Rewind that Azimuth motor.
